So... about this naked wedding cake! We have received a lot of comments and positive feedback and it just so happens to be one of my favorites to date. I typically don't gravitate towards lighter and fruity desserts, but I'll take a slice (or two) of this and a glass of champagne any day!
We collaborated with Two If By Sea for this amazing styled shoot and the inspiration was a rustic, but very romantic southern winter wedding in Charleston. Fall is the most popular season to get married here in Charleston, however a slice of this cake will surely make you reconsider.
Whenever I am creating a new dessert I start by thinking of the main flavor I want to showcase and then I jot down other flavors that will compliment it. I immediately thought of olive oil cake to compliment the tart and slightly sweet cranberry jam that the cake is layered with. Orange zest is used throughout the cake and in the buttercream. If you look closely you can see the flecks of orange zest! This Olive Oil Cake is the perfect balance of fruity, tart, citrus, and sweet!
I hope this cake inspires you to think outside of the box when brainstorming wedding cake flavor ideas. Don't be afraid to have your favorite dessert transformed into a cake flavor. A naked cake specifically will showcase all of the components and makes for a sexy and unique presentation. After all, your wedding day will be unforgettable and your cake should be too!
